How to Replace Robot Vacuum Mop Pads

Mop pads do the actual scrubbing on mopping robots and hybrid vacuums. A worn or permanently stained pad just pushes dirty water around. Pads attach with velcro or slide into rails, so swapping takes seconds.

FIG · Replacing a mop padNTS

These are general instructions. Exact access panels, latches and part orientation vary by model, always follow your device manufacturer's manual first.

When to replace it

  • The pad stays grey or stained even after washing
  • Fibers are matted flat and no longer scrub
  • Floors dry with streaks or a dull film
  • The pad no longer sticks flat to the plate

What you need

  • No tools required

Step by step

  1. 1

Switch the device off and unplug it (or remove the battery) before starting.

  2. 2

Remove the water tank or mop plate if your design requires it.

  3. 3

Peel the used pad off the velcro plate or slide it out of its rails.

  4. 4

Attach the new pad flat, with no folds, aligned to the plate edges.

  5. 5

Refit the tank or plate and run a short cleaning cycle to confirm even contact.

  • Tip: Wash reusable pads before first use to remove manufacturing residue.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Attaching the pad with folds or wrinkles, it cleans unevenly and can catch on thresholds
  • Using fabric softener when washing reusable pads, it coats the fibers and kills absorbency
  • Running a mopping cycle with a dried-out, crusted pad
  • Mixing up pad types when a pack includes both wet and dry pads

Pro tips from manufacturers & repair experts

  • Hand-wash reusable pads in cold water and air-dry; machine washing can damage some materials.
  • Lightly dampen a pad before attaching it for better initial floor contact.
  • Peel hook-and-loop pads off evenly instead of yanking at one corner.
  • Use cleaners only on the pad, not inside the water tank, unless your manual allows it.

Frequently asked questions

Are reusable pads machine washable?

Most are, cold or warm cycle, no fabric softener, air dry. Check the pack instructions.

How often should I change the pad during cleaning?

For larger areas, swap or rinse the pad between rooms so you are not spreading dirty water.

The pad keeps peeling off mid-cycle. What is wrong?

The velcro plate may be clogged with lint. Clean the plate, and make sure the pad is aligned to the plate edges when attaching.
